Annette Nijs (Dutch, 1961) is a macroeconomist. Nijs is the Executive Director Global Initiative of the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), one of the leading global business schools.

She is an adviser for China´s central government and in 2015 has received the Chinese Government Friendship Award. During a Policy Recommendation Seminar included as part of the Award Ceremony, Nijs presented a policy recommendation on how the Chinese government can more effectively communicate to foreigners abroad its strategy of win-win, reciprocal and peaceful international relations. This recommendation, together with those of five other award winners, will be communicated to China’s State Leadership.

Annette is also a visiting scholar from CEIBS at IESE. She studies strategy ad international business and focuses on multinationals coming from the frontier economies of the next decade (China, India, Brazil,Indonesia, Russia, Turkey and Mexico). Nijs published her first book on China in October 2009 in her home country the Netherlands.
She is a former Cabinet Minister for Education, Culture and Science in the Netherlands and a former member of the Dutch Parliament Before joining CEIBS, Nijs established the Europe China Institute at Nyenrode Business University in her role as Managing Director. She started her international career working for Shell where she gained more than 10 years experience in the energy industry in Europe, US, Middle-East and Asia.
Nijs is a seasoned advisor to organizations and companies. She currently is a member of the supervisory board of the West Foreign Investment Agency, The Netherlands, and a member of the advisory board of De Maatschappij (the oldest Dutch network of Entrepreneurs). She also is a senior advisor of the EFMD, European Foundation of Management Development in Brussels and advisor to the board of various international companies in the field of theatre productions, human resources, culture, information technology and public affairs.
Nijs is a regular guest speaker on the Dutch Business News Radio, at international forums (such as the European Business Summit, Horasis Global China Business Summit, The Amsterdam Investment Forum and the Peter Drucker Society), for senior executive teams around the world (for example of Deutsche Bank, Mirae Securities, Deloitte, DSM, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Larsen & Toubro, Philips, Shell, Tata Group Int., TNT and WPP) and at business schools (such as CEIBS (Shanghai), London Business School, Said Business School (Oxford, UK) and Nyenrode Business University (The Netherlands).
She is an alumnus of Harvard Business School (May 2010), holds an Executive MBA of London Business School (July 1999) and a Masters Degree in macroeconomics of the Erasmus University Rotterdam (June 1987).
