Over a decade ago, Tomas Casas a native from Barcelona, started a new career in Shanghai. Tomas started to hone his business skills and ended up a serial entrepreneur. Most of his ventures are in the software and information technology sectors.. Once a venture matures, he takes on a strategic supervisory role. Fortune has been on his side, as three of his China firms have seen an exit. His insights into China business have been featured in business cases and books such as “China CEO: A Case Guide for Business Leaders in China” (Fernandez, Liu, Wiley, 2006) or “War for Management Talent in China” (Fischer, IMD, 2007).

At the teaching end, Tomas’ engagements are centered at the University of St. Gallen where since 2006 he is a Lehrbeauftragter (Lecturer). His courses include, “The Entrepreneur; Wealth Creation and Luck”, “Biases and Heuristics in Venturing” and “Doing Business in China”. He is also engaged as a portfolio partner at the University of St. Gallen’s Institute for Leadership and HR Management and is active at the Center for Corporate Governance. In addition, Tomas lectures regularly to executives as he works with academic institutions like the Rotman School at the University of Toronto or INSEAD. Moreover, every year he leads various executive education expeditions to China for a wide range of clients such as Vivendi-SFR or Christies including, for over a decade, for IMD’s EMBA.
